A Celtic Countryside Wedding

Being a fan of weddings that celebrate a couple’s heritage, we put an updated spin on the traditional Celtic wedding for this shoot. We included elements that honored the couple’s lineage but in a way that appeals to today’s style savvy bride. A natural color palette of greens, browns, and ivory with pops of metallic gold, paired with a restrained Celtic knot theme, was used throughout the ceremony and reception to create a cohesive look.

The bride wore the lovely “Ivey” gown by Monique Lhullier, which boasted a knotted neckline reminiscent of the Celtic knot used in the décor. Her floral headpiece of soft lavender roses and dainty white spray roses kept with the open, natural setting of the ceremony. The groom’s casual khaki pants and playful sage colored gingham shirt kept with the casual theme, while his pageboy hat was a nod to Irish tradition.

The ceremony took place in an open field under a weathered wooden altar, with romantic velvet burn out curtain panels creating a soft backdrop. Church pew seating and a bag piper paid homage to Irish Catholic tradition.

The reception incorporated Irish elements such as lace and crystal, but also utilized vintage green cut glass vases on tabletops. Flowers were predominantly white with some muted pastel tones, and were paired with natural mosses and vines. The bar boasted a selection of Irish beers, Irish whiskey and both wine and sparkling water with custom labels. The three-tiered cake mimicked the texture of the gold paper used in the stationery.

Paper goods played an important part in the look of the day, with all pieces being printed on a delicate parchment paper that was hand burned and mounted on a heavyweight leather texture gold paper. Traditional Celtic fonts were combined with a popular Calligraphy font to blend old and new. A variety of Celtic knots were used in lieu of table numbers, and traditional escort cards were replaced with hand burned notes that guided guests to their tables but also served as a note card for a message to be written to the lucky couple.
